I’ve had a 30+ year career with leadership roles in several companies. I’ve been a Partner at The Boston Consulting Group (BCG), COO of Delta Air Lines (joined as acting Treasurer on 9-11), CEO of Red Hat, and President of IBM. I serve on the Board of United Airlines and the International Advisory Board of Bank Santander. I’ve served as Chair of the North Carolina Chamber of Commerce and Vice Chair of the Economic Development Partnership on North Carolina. I’m proud of my work at all of these organizations, and I believe I led those who worked for and with me with an open mind, a full heart and a wholehearted purpose of adding value for all constituents.

I’m currently taking a hiatus from corporate leadership, but I continue to serve as a Senior Advisor to IBM and as a Special Advisor at Silver Lake. I’m also exercising more, reading more and sleeping more! I’m hoping to use some of my newfound time to have a different kind of impact, and I’m enjoying working with my spouse to do this together.

I am also quite involved with two non-profits: Rice University, my alma mater and where my daughter now attends school, and The Conservation Fund which does wonderful work around protecting our natural environment. This work is so meaningful to me personally.

Finally, but really first, I am a devoted spouse and father, and I feel so fortunate that I have been able to balance an ambitious and time-consuming career with significant family time. I love our dinners, card games, TV nights and travels together more than anything else I do.
